    Pros +

    • Lovely old building, food was very good, comfy bed.
    • Caste Cary is lovely and the George is in the centre. It is a proper lovely old building but was warm and comfortable and the pub downstairs has good Guinness and a nice pub menu
    • Friendly and efficient staff. The room was very spacious and conveniently placed. Breakfast was absolutely outstanding.

    Cons -

    • Very loud bagging front door
    • The news that it is going to be closing for refurbishment is sad, because I can't imagine it will retain its current charm.
    • Our twin room was reached down a damp smelling corridor. There was an electric fire for heating so it was cold 1st thing until we put it on. The mattress was too soft as were the pillows and the bedding and towels were basic quality. The furniture was old fashioned and the few plug sockets were one the wrong place, alto an extension was provided. £125 per night B&B was on the high side.

The breakfast was 1st class. Dinner was excellent with gluten free options and fairly priced. All staff were fabulous, helpful, friendly and accommodating

Although there are works going on at the pub, this was a pleasant stay over Christmas. Friendly staff, comfortable beds and powerful shower! Was perfect while we had Christmas with family up the road!

    All fine

open fire. room nice and warm all night. good breakfast. dinner menu rather limited. Parking very convenient for me (blue badge user) friendly people in bar.

irregular steps out of my room, no hand hold on wallvery creaky floor boards by bathroom door

The room was well equipped, clean and warm with a comfortable bed and useful desk. The evening was plentiful and well cooked, the restaurant was freindly and well laid out. The cooked breakfast was excellent.

The car park was small with a narrow entrance, though this wasn't a major problem to me. There is ample parking close by in the town.

Good location and the rooms were quiet. The bed was comfortable and we slept well.

The rooms are tired, I believe they are closing for a full refurb in 2026. Heating was off in our room on arrival. No curtain for the glass door to the room, OK in the winter but you would be up at sunrise in the Summer. Shower was very poor. A good breakfast was let down by cheap bread.

Good location and friendly staff. Cosy accomodation.

Room tired and tv and internet was irratic.

Breakfast OK but why pay extra for more than one item - seems petty? Dinner good tho. Atmosphere in pub good but bedroom facilities lacking: old broken windows let in draughts. Furniture old and rickety - table collapsed and heavy table lamp fell just missing my head. No sockets by the bed. Only single pipe towel rail in bathroom and water just a trickle. Mattress poor and awoken by bin men outside at 04.30. Arrived Sunday evening and NO taxis available. Had to beg a lift from the station.

    See above.

    Atmospheric pub, breakfast good

Room cold, only one towel, lights notcc bc working, general feeling of shabbiness. Expensive

Great location, we've stayed a few times. Its lovely to be in such an old, characterful building with so much history. Food was lovely as always, really great quality and well presented.

The experience was let down by the front of house staff. The evening was okay, service was quick. However the morning was a different experience. Very grumpy man, clearly under resourced and without saying a word let every one know about it.

The staff were lovely. The bed was great.

The toilet needed gallon of bleach to soak it clean, it was dreadful! The steps to our room were extremely dangerous so too was the surface of the car park. No curtain on the glass door to the room which is straight off the car park. The car park lights were on all night so lit up the room. The food was very poor and the dining room was cold and dark. There wasn't a safety handrail to the shower in the bath.

What a wonderful 15th Century hotel. Groovy rooms. Comfortable bed. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The dinner was extraordinary. Pulled lamb shoulder - just fabulous, with a most tasty jus (sauce) and very nicely done veg. It simply 'sang' in my mouth. The chef really knew his business. Breakfast was also great, I ordered a simple ham and cheese omelette, but done to perfection. The Publican himself cooked it.

Nothing, zero, nada. I liked everything about this hotel.

Staff were fantastic. Food is excellent. Had dinner and breakfast both nights. My freind came for dinner who lives local and enjoyed the food too. Room has everything you need. Comfy bed and huge bathroom. Bar staff were lovely and the main guy running it was welcoming and really corteous.

Had a pleasant stay. Photos were accurate.

Breakfast waiter wasn’t the best. Lacked a bit of customer service. Was a bit abrupt. Borderline rude.

    6RogerPosted on: 11-24-2025

The hotel has a lot of character, the evening dinner was very pleasant and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful.

The mattress was heavily stained and the room was a bit noisy until later in the evening. The old Scottish chap who served breakfast was definitely a little strange.

    Great location

Room was very small, there were biscuit crumbs on the chest of drawers. There was no where to plug the kettle in without putting it on the floor. The only space to hang clothes was on coat pegs on the cheapest metal coat hangers. The hot water was not consistent and the temperature changed part way through a shower. There was really nothing to like about the accommodation, it is beyond tired. We know The George is due to be refurbished- it is so ready for it.

Good location. Great choice of breakfasts.

    Bathroom rather dated.

    5SmithermanPosted on: 11-6-2025

    It had a nice atmosphere

The floor was very uneven, the bed wasn’t comfy, the shower took ages to heat up and I could hear lots of noise from other rooms and outside
